Better Breathers Clubs

The Better Breathers’ Club program, co-sponsored by the American Lung Association of California, was developed in 1978 to meet the informational needs of adults with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Currently, the ALA promotes Better Breathers’ Clubs throughout the county. These groups are designed to improve the level of general health understanding and specifically, the knowledge of COPD; they also provide a forum for development of interpersonal support for people with similar needs. Guest speakers from various health disciplines share their expertise with the group, in an effort to help participants breathe easier and lead a higher quality of life. These groups also offer an open forum to discuss common concerns related to their lung disease. The purpose of the club is to offer community-based educational opportunities and support to persons with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and their families, friends and support persons. The goal is to provide what is needed most by these individuals to help them improve their lives. Better Breathers’ Clubs meet once or twice a month at various locations throughout Orange County.
